An international joint venture plans to build a solar panel factory in Brighton in a project expected to generate 900 jobs.

VSK Energy Inc. will spend $250 million establishing the solar photovoltaic module factory in an industrial property off Interstate 76 over the next year, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis’ office announced Thursday.

The company is a joint venture of Vikram Solar, India’s second-largest solar manufacturer, Phalanx Impact Partners, a New York City-based private equity firm, and Das & Co., an investment firm with expertise investing in solar in the U.S., India and elsewhere, the governor’s office said.

"Colorado's commitment to being a leader in clean energy, its central location in the U.S., and its highly-skilled, highly-educated workforce make it a perfect fit for VSK's module assembly facility,” said Jay Sharma, co-chairman of VSK Energy and head of

Vikram Solar’s U.S. operations. “We are incredibly excited about our partnership with Colorado and our future within the Brighton community as we work together to shape a brighter, more sustainable future."

Colorado has authorized up to $9.1 million in state job-growth tax incentive rebates to the company, which it can claim over eight years if it creates at least 951 jobs at the factory that pay more than $65,312 annually.

The VSK Energy factory will add to a clean technology industry that contributes $4.6 billion annually to the state’s economy and employs over 62,000 Colorado workers, said Eve Lieberman, executive director of Colorado’s Office of Economic Development and International Trade.
